Japan Airlines Flight 123, also known as JAL 123, was a scheduled domestic flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Osaka International Airport in Japan. On August 12, 1985, the Boeing 747SR operating the flight crashed into a mountain in Gunma Prefecture, resulting in the deadliest single-aircraft disaster in aviation history.
There were 524 passengers and crew on board, of which only four survived. The crash was caused by a failure in the aircraft's rear pressure bulkhead, which led to decompression and structural damage, ultimately resulting in the loss of control of the airplane.
The crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 remains one of the most tragic and devastating aviation accidents in history. It led to significant changes in airline safety procedures and regulations, including improvements in aircraft maintenance and inspections. The incident also highlighted the importance of effective communication and decision-making in emergency situations.
